Professional Editing for Writers
Don’t let errors ruin your reader’s experience, have your manuscript professionally edited!
PROOFREADING
The editor will correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and basic grammar. Higher level issues such as sentence structure, repetitiveness, and advanced grammar correction will require a higher level edit (which is generally recommended before the proofreading phase).
The editor may, at their discretion, comment on plot holes and inconsistencies, but content is generally not covered in a proofread. The editor will also not comment on formatting issues.
All proofreading is completed using the Track Changes function in Microsoft Word – no exceptions.
COPY EDITING
The editor will do a single pass through your manuscript using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes and Commentary functions. They will correct all basic grammar and punctuation, as well as leave comments for advanced grammar issues resulting in the need to rewrite the sentence. Please note, these will be suggestions on how to improve your writing, the editor will not to do the rewriting.
They may, at their own discretion, comment on plot holes and inconsistencies even though content is not ordinarily covered in a copy edit. They will also not comment on formatting issues.
LINE EDITING
The editor will not only correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar, but also explain how to fix and avoid these issues in your future writing. During a line edit, higher level issues such as sentence structure, redundancies, and advanced grammar are also corrected.
The editor will also provide commentary and an additional document that covers larger scope items such as plot issues, character issues, consistency, writing style, etc.
CONTENT EDITING
The editor will read the story with the following focuses in mind: character development, plot, pacing, story arc, description, genre tropes, writing style.
Content editing does not include corrections to grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Your returned manuscript will contain comments using Microsoft Word’s commenting function. You will also receive an additional document regarding manuscript-wide issues.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I have a sample edit?
I offer the following sample edits: Proofreading – 1,000 words, Copy Editing – 1,000 words, Line Editing – 500 words.
Due to the nature of content editing, we do not offer a sample of this type.
How long will the edit take?
The short answer is that it depends. Many factors can change the time it takes to complete the edit. Manuscript length, number of errors, and number of manuscripts in queue can all lengthen the return time. It is best to send a detailed inquiry.
How do I pay?
You will receive an invoice when the I have begun your project. All payments are completed using PayPal (though you do not need a PayPal account to pay a PayPal invoice).
Can I do a deposit, instead?
Although I generally require full payment before returning an edit, I may agree to a 50% deposit on larger projects. Contact me for more information and I’ll be happy to work with you!
Will my manuscript be perfect once returned?
No. This sounds bad, but you must understand that a manuscript can never be perfect. Even simple errors such as spelling have made their way into books such as Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Your manuscript will be as perfect as a single edit can make it. You can be sure I strive for that unobtainable perfection, though!
